Literary fiction and mimesis in Luiz Costa Lima

Abstract

In the review of mimesis proposed by Luiz Costa Lima since 1980, a certain type of literary fiction seems to occupy a central place. Considering his attempt to delimit it through the mechanism of verisimilitude, this article proposes a deep insight of his own suggestion, developing it by means of the articulation with the pieces of his theoretical board and the dialogue maintained with the contributions made by Wolfgang Iser. Thus, we aim to highlight the double role played by a specific type of literary fiction in its category of mimesis re-elaboration which, according to the understanding consecrated by its Latin translation to imitatio, has been traditionally understood as a passive activity in the search for similarity.
